Here are some the rock"s movies that you probably missed,or maybe not>wink<:
Can you smell what The Rock is cooking? If so, you must be sniffing the sweet scent of 17 upcoming movies...
Got a movie you’re trying to make? Why not put Dwayne Johnson
in it? It’s what everyone else seems to be doing, and it’s bound to earn
you a fervent flurry of publicity. The man who it may not be acceptable
to call ‘The Rock’ anymore has a whopping 17 films on his slate at the
moment, though, so he may struggle to fit you in. But is there a movie
star who's working harder right now?
The Rock's Kevin Hart comedy team-up Central Intelligence is in cinemas now, and after that Mr Johnson will be bringing us this massive pile of movies...
Baywatch
Currently in post-production, the cinematic Baywatch revival is another example of The Rock being injected in to bring new life to an established franchise (see: Fast & Furious, The Mummy, G.I. Joe and Journey To The Centre Of The Earth. They don’t call him Franchise Viagra for nothing!).
The mighty Mr Johnson will appear alongside Zac Efron and his San Andreas co-star Alexandra Daddario. Horrible Bosses’ Seth Gordon directed the movie, and a comedic tone is expected. Probably some muscles, too. Baywatch is due in cinemas May 2017.
Doc Savage
Shane Black has snapped up The Rock to play a doc. Doc Savage, that
is, the world’s first superhero (who debuted for DC Comics way back in
1933 and was portrayed on the silver screen by Ron Ely in 1975’s Doc Savage: The Man Of Bronze).
The new movie will be set in the 1930s. Sony Pictures and Original Film are backing it. Dwayne Johnson is very enthusiastic. He said this on Facebook:
“Doc was physically and mentally trained from birth by his father and a team of scientists to become the perfect human specimen with a genius level intellect. His heightened senses are beyond comprehension. He can even identify a women's perfume from half a mile away. He is literally the master of everything. But here's the #1 reason I'm excited to become Doc Savage.. HE'S A F*CKING HILARIOUS WEIRDO! Confidently, yet innocently he has zero social graces whatsoever due to his upbringing so every interaction he has with someone is direct, odd, often uncomfortable and amazingly hilarious.”
This one is likely to shoot in 2017, once Shane Black is done filming The Predator.
Fast 8
The eighth film in the Fast & Furious franchise – and
the fourth one to feature The Rock – will see Dwayne Johnson sporting an
impressive goatee (see above). This time, F Gary Gray of Straight Outta Compton will direct. We don’t know much about the plot at this stage. At a guess: it will involve cars.
“When you strip a man of all he has. All that’s important to him, you force him to return to his roots. And sometimes that’s a very dangerous and twisted place,” teased Mr Johnson on Instagram. Fast 8 will speed onto our screens (arf) in April 2017.
Journey 3: From The Earth To The Moon
Brad Peyton of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and San Andreas will reunite yet again with Dwayne Johnson for Journey 3: From The Earth To The Moon.
An American release date has been set for 16th June 2017, and Josh
Hutcherson and Anna Colwell are expected to return alongside The Rock.
We suspect this one has been postponed though: whilst the project is a
live one, filming would need to start fairly quickly to hit that date.
And Mr Johnson is busy.
The last film ended with a book being opened and a dramatic camera swoop up to the moon. Given that and the title of this third instalment, it seems fair to assume this one will have a lunar setting. Also, talk is already afoot regarding a fourth film in the franchise, but that surely depends on how successful this third one is. We’ll keep you posted.
Jumanji
This one’s a sure thing - and it's next on The Rock's to-do list. It’s got a director (Sex Tape’s
Jake Kasdan), it’s got a release date (28th July 2017), it’s got no
less than five credited writers and it’s got one hell of a cast.
Dwayne Johnson (of course), Jack Black and Kevin Hart will star in this reimagining of the classic board-game-based movie. And recent rumours point towards incumbent Spider-Man Tom Holland joining the fray as well. Via Instagram, The Rock has promised that there will also be “one bad ass girl” among his “Jumanji Breakfast Club”.
Moana
Moana is a Disney animation all about a young navigator
(voiced by Auli'i Cravalho), who sets sails in search of a fabled
island. Dwayne Johnson portrays the legendary demi-god Maui, who joins
Moana on her adventure. Ron Clements and John Musker directed this one,
which reaches UK shores (arf again!) in December 2016.
Rampage
Set to shoot later this year, Rampage is the film adaptation
of the classic 1986 arcade game of the same name (if you're unfamiliar,
it's basically about monsters who trample cities while armed forces
attempt to stop them. At the moment, it's unclear if Dwayne Johnson is
playing a man or a mutated beast).
The Rock has assembled his whole San Andreas team for this one - director Brad Peyton, producer Beau Flynn and writer Carlton Cuse (who’s worked with his Colony co-creator Ryan Condal on the script). It could be a lot of fun, we reckon.
San Andreas 2
Dwayne Johnson is reteaming with director Brad Peyton and the producer Beau Flynn for a second San Andreas
movie. Most of the supporting cast are believed to be returning too,
but scriptwriter Carlton Cuse will not. This time, the screenplay will
come from Neil Widener and Gavin James.
The first San Andreas movie earned an impressive $473 million worldwide in 2015, making it a surprise hit and justifying New Line Cinema’s interest in a sequel. There’s no word of a release date yet, but this one seems fairly certain to us. Expect a more global focus, more earthquakes, and perhaps some more shirking of responsibility from The Rock's character.
Unnamed “buddy action comedy”
At the end of last year, New Line Cinema picked up an untitled project from director Will Gluck (2013’s Annie, Easy A) and writer Dave Callaham (The Expendables, Doom). Dwayne Johnson and his frequent producer Beau Flynn are both attached.
The as-yet-unnamed film been described by Deadline as “something of a throwback to those mismatched buddy action comedies like Lethal Weapon, Midnight Run and 48 Hours.” With a studio and a full creative team lined up, it seems like a sure thing despite not having a title yet.
Big Trouble In Little China
John Carpenter’s 1986 gem Big Trouble In Little China is
being remade, with The Rock at centre stage and some superhero
scriptwriters involved behind the scenes (Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz
of Thor and X-Men: First Class are penning the screenplay). Dwayne Johnson is also producing this one, which has backing from 20th Century Fox.
"I loved reading the reactions from the fans, that they were so polarized - I'm the same way", The Rock said to Entertainment Weekly. "My response is that I come to the project with nothing but love and respect for the original, which is why we want to bring on John Carpenter".
It remains to be seen whether Carpenter will come on board in some capacity, and at the moment no director is attached. But with major studio backing and two experienced writers, this film seems very likely to be made.
“Die Hard In China”
From little China to actual China, Dwayne Johnson will reunite with
director Rawson Marshall Thurber for a movie that is currently being
described as “Die Hard in China” (The Rock Vs. insurmountable odds,
against a Chinese backdrop, essentially). We assume it’ll get an actual
title at some stage.
Thurber - who helmed Central Intelligence, the upcoming comedy featuring Johnson and Kevin Hart - is writing the script as well as directing. Universal are committed to distributing the movie.
Alpha Squad Seven
DreamWorks apparently acquired the rights to this one after a hefty bidding war, but have yet to hire a director. Alpha Squad Seven is a sci-fi action comedy set in space, from producer Beau Flynn (Journey 2, San Andreas, Hercules) and writers Nick Palmer and Jeremiah Friedman (both of whom are also working on The Karate Kid 2 at the moment).
Alpha Squad Seven is believed to have franchise potential (of course it does, The Rock is in it), and Mr Johnson will star alongside someone else at the heart of the film. We don’t know who that person is yet, but the movie is a ‘two-hander’ apparently.
The Janson Directive
The starting point for Universal’s planned Robert Ludlum cinematic
universe - which could create even more work for The Rock if it's
successful - The Janson Directive will star Dwayne Johnson, presumably as the protagonist and ex-Navy SEAL Paul Janson.
This being Ludlum, you can expect plenty of thrills and spills. James Vanderbilt of Zodiac and The Amazing Spider-Man is working on the script, and is also teaming with a group of writers to plot out the future of this cinematic universe. Again, this one will seem like more of a certainty when a director and/or a release date and/or a few more cast members are confirmed.
Jungle Cruise
Following in the footsteps of Pirates Of The Caribbean,
Disney are planning to turn Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise theme park ride
into a big screen blockbuster. The movie will apparently be a period
piece, taking inspiration from Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn’s The African Queen.
Dwayne Johnson is attached to star, but there’s no director confirmed yet. When there is, we might bump this up into the ‘definite’ section of this article. The project has been bubbling away since 2007. As well as snapping up Johnson, Disney has recently hired John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (Focus, Crazy Stupid Love) to pen a script.
Shazam!
Dwayne Johnson was attached to play DC Comics antihero Lobo for quite
some time, but eventually jumped ships to another DC/Warner Bros
project by the name of Shazam. He’s nabbed the role of the
Black Adam; either an ancient Egyptian villain or a reformed antihero,
depending on which comics you’re reading.
The film has been announced for April 2019, as part of Warner Bros’ sprawling slate for its DC Extended Universe. There’s been a lot of reshuffling going on with behind the scenes at the DCEU recently, but the Shazam script for the film is still being worked on. It "can be grounded and have real stakes but can still be fun”, says producer Hiram Garcia.
We’ll believe Shazam is a real possibility when a director and/or a few more cast members come on board.
Son Of Shaolin
The Rock is definitely involved in Sony's big screen adaptation of the Son Of Shaolin graphic
novel, but only as a producer at the moment. More time and more money
may need to be found if the studio want him to appear on screen as well.
Deadline describes this one - which is based on a not-yet-published comic by Jay Longino - as a ‘contemporary Kung-Fu story’. We'll let you know as more details come to light.
Fast & Furious Spin Off
“Maybe it’s a spinoff movie”, suggested Dwayne Johnson on the topic of Hobbs’ future after Fast 8 (via Instagram).
It’s also worth mentioning, though, that he also said “Maybe it's
more #FF movies. Or hell maybe Hobbs just gets on his motorcycle and
rides off into the sunset never to be seen again.”
But, indeed, the idea of Fast & Furious spin-off movies has been in the ether for a while. “We’re certainly in conversations about how we can expand the franchise now,” said Universal’s Donna Langley back in November 2015. “It’s an ensemble cast and there’s room to bring characters in and out.”
As it stands, though, a solo movie for Johnson’s Hobbs is yet to be officially confirmed. You can bet that important people are talking about it, though.
The Rundown 2
Peter Berg’s 2003 action comedy The Rundown – which starred The Rock as a bounty hunter - could be getting a sequel. Berg said in 2013
that he had “just met with writers, so we’re trying to do it. I really
want to do it. I’ve talked to Dwayne. I have an actor in mind that I
can’t say that I want to work with Dwayne on it, and we want to do it".
Since then, things have gone very quiet on this front, hence the positioning of The Rundown 2 in the ‘rumours’ section of this article. We’ll let you know, of course, if we hear any updates.
Wolf Man
Universal is apparently eyeing Mr Johnson for its big screen relaunch of the Wolf Man franchise.
As part of the much-talked-about classic monsters shared universe, the
idea here would be for The Rock to embrace the wolf by portraying the
central character.
It seems plausible, as he's appeared in a monster movie before, but it remains to be seen whether there's space in The Rock's schedule for this. As there's been no formal announcement, we're leaving Wolf Man in the rumours section of this article for now.
We’ll keep adding more and more films to this as Dwayne Johnson continues to work every single second of every single day (and then some)...
